Student Places in Top Ten for Gingerbread House Creation

Congratulations to Emma Daigneault for placing in the Top 10 in the 25 th Annual Gingerbread House Competition, held at Grove Park Inn, Asheville on Nov. 20.

Emma's creation included chocolate-covered rocks on the house and a fondant pig, cow, rabbit and sheep. She made a peppermint fence and used Big Red gum for the roof. She finished off her creation with ice cream cones for trees and gummy-bear mud!

Teacher Dares

Coach Avery swept the Teacher Dares student fundraiser, and true to his dare promise, arrived at school wearing a tutu.

Students and teachers voted with money for the teacher they would like to see 'win' the dare and complete it with the student body before the Thanksgiving holiday break. All funds raised with this event will go to the students via activities and events.

Hiking Trip

The seventh and eighth grade took an October field trip to Jones Gap State Park, in the Mountain Bridge Wilderness Area. Ranger Elliott led a class focused on forest ecology. After educating the group on the different layers in the forest, students went and found plants in each category.  The ranger also spoke about the natural habitats within Jones Gap and the animals which inhabit the park.
Another group of students hiked to Jones Gap Falls, following along the Middle Saluda River to a 50-foot waterfall. The students were thrilled to see the waterfall at the end of the trail. For a few, the hike was their first woodland adventure!
